“Cleansing” and “Detoxing” are popular buzzwords these days. Known for their ability to give a fresh new outlook when you’re feeling worn-out, cleansing and detoxing are all the rage. But do you really need to detox or cleanse your system for ultimate health?
Unfortunately, some people have tried various detoxes or water and cayenne fasts that are far too harsh and abruptly stopped, never to try again. There are even tonnes of kits, tea bags, drops and who-knows-what-else type of detoxes and cleanses on the market (some that charge over $400 for vitamin supplements!).
But we do live in stressed-out times and detoxing, or cleansing, is essential with increasing stress, pre-packaged, unhealthy food and environmental toxins.
So my answer is a resounding, YES. We do need to cleanse or detox (I use these interchangeably!); especially after the holidays when we are feeling worn out and tired, and just generally sluggish (spring and fall are also wonderful times).
While skeptics may argue the opposite – that we don’t ever need to detox – (ever heard The body is perfectly capable of cleansing itself from a doctor?), yet detoxing/cleansing/fasting has its roots firmly planted in the history of humans. Fasting is woven deeply into many spiritual practices, known for its ability to facilitate enlightenment.
As well, these days, we’re dealing with more toxins, pollutants, pre-packaged food, and stress, then ever before. Desperate times call for desperate measures (below I’ll discuss how it doesn’t have to be that desperate but you get the picture).
Taking a rest from regular, old food makes us just feel more alive, through helping our body rid itself of built up toxins.
Now, many of you know that I’m not all that extreme. I’m just a regular old vegan that likes to eat a tonne of fresh plant food (and I’m passionate about it too).
I’m not going to try and sell you the idea that you need to drastically cut off all bad foods, drinks, and other stimulants for a whole month or more in order for you to fantastic.
What is truly transformational is ramping up your intake of fresh, raw plant food in a steady, focused way, while focusing on the things other than food in our lives (emotions, relationships, career, wants, desires) that really create lasting change. There are many tweaks and tricks to make it a truly transformation and life-changing experience.
You don’t need a whole detox kit, pills or other supplements – raw food, plus the power of your mind, will work all on its own.
You’ll feel nourished down to every last cell in your body. Done in steps, detoxing doesn’t have to be an all-out scary affair, never to try again.
In a safe environment with fellow health seekers, cleansing can actually be enjoyable. In fact, you might even have a few epiphanies with a spring in your step and a smile on your face.
Your eyes might radiate and your partner might say there’s a special glow on your skin, or a certain irresistibility about you. You’ll feel even better than you look!
Make sure that the cleanse you choose is one that fits your life, that isn’t too extreme, nor too lax.
This January I’m launching my highly anticipated 3 week, Raw Energy Cleanse which will guide health seekers through a cleansing adventure that, not only focuses on food, but incorporates the real nitty-gritty of our lives (emotions, relationships, career) that can lead to true success and transformation.
Let us hear about your experiences with cleansing or detoxing – what has it done for you? Were you scared by it? Did it boost you to wonderful heights? Tell us in the comments below!
